She went for it

by Apple Du on February 19, 2018

She just stood there. Mouth hanging open. Arms at her sides. Czech snowboarder Ester Ledecka was just as stunned to have earned an Olympic gold medal in the women’s super-G as any of us watching.

She went for it

“Until today,” she said at the time, “I thought I was a better snowboarder.” After all, she was a world champion snowboarder, but had never finished higher than 19th in a super-G at a World Cup skiing event.

But she went for it. She borrowed a pair of skis from American Mikaela Shiffrin and chose to become the first athlete ever to compete in both skiing and snowboarding at the Olympics. She stepped outside her comfort zone and tried something else.

For many competitors, the Apple Duathlon is kind of like that. If you’ve “always” been a runner (or jogger or persistent shuffler…), the Apple could be the chance for you to branch out and add cycling to your mix. Just like Ester’s skis, there have been plenty of racers who’ve taken on their first Apple Duathlon on a borrowed bike.

I won’t promise that when you reach out and go for it you’ll win the whole thing. (By the same token, I guess I won’t promise that you WON’T.) There will be some amazing, elite duathletes in Sartell that day. And when you go for it, you’ll be on the same course with them.

Set a goal for yourself. Register for Apple. You determine your gold medal.
